1970 VW Campervan T2 PROJECT, Early Bay, Dormobile, Historic Vehicle (Tax Free)

The van has been stripped ready for a basic restoration.  When this was done it became apparent that a full restoration was necessary, which the budget did not allow for. 

It’s a desirable early bay with the low light indicators and drum brakes front and rear, and was the follow-on from the split screen.

The camper conversion was done by Dormobile and it retains all the original interior in fair to good condition.  The cooker, sink and cool box are all complete.

The roof system works with two bunks in the roof, two downstairs on a full-width (very comfortable) bed and a small child in the cab bunk – all beds/hammocks included.

The van has 240V electric hook-up (working).

The van has a two year old vege reconditioned 1600 twin port engine that runs without fault.  The tin wear could do with powder coating to return to stock clean appearance.  The engine has been steam cleaned.

The gearbox is original to the van and selects gears with no problems.  It was the first time out of the camper and could benefit from a clean and replace input oil seal and drive shaft oil seals.

New starter fitted, good CV joints and shaft and a new (in the box) exhaust included.

Original front bumper complete and rear replacement bumper that needs a little straightening.

The front panel was replaced in 2007 and is all metal (the front inner cross member could do with the welding completing).

All the lights are included, as are the locks, handles etc which are boxed up with all parts removed.

A full set of new window seals and good tailgate seal are included.

The majority of the body panels come with the van including sills, battery tray etc (see photos).

The van was MOT’d in September 2011.

The following areas of body work and chassis are in need of replacement:

Body work: needs rear lower corners, rear tall arches, bottom of sliding door, inner and outer tall panel, b-pillar bottoms, front arch repair sections and small area of cab floor and door skin repairs.

Chassis and frame: battery trays, repairs or replacement of wheel arch tubs, c pillar frame bottoms need repairing down onto the jacking points, complete inner middle and outer sills, jacking points redone (they will be able to be removed and replaced). The chassis rails between the cross-members are heavily corroded, the bottom of the b pillars again down onto the jacking points which will need replacing, the two cross members from the chassis to the front corners.

The front suspension beam needs repairs to corrosion but could be savaged.
