The Hunter Case opens to almost 90 degrees when the stem is depressed. Niello is a lost art than was so caustic to produce that it is no longer done. It is an extremely beautiful form of art that should be cherished and treasured. This is a very highly collectible Swiss pocket watch is in excellent running condition and keeps very good time. It is Hallmarked showing 0.800 Silver or Coin Silver. The highly ornate Art Nouveau Niello Case is decorated in typical Art Nouveau style with a flowing floral design in this particular case it shows a very beautiful Golden Flower on the front cover and silver flowers and vines adorn the rest of the case! The term NIELLO comes from the Latin word nigellum that is the diminutive of Niger (black). It was a technique used by the ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and Persians.
