LONDON'.
Circa early 1900s.
The microscope stands about 11" tall in its closed position.
Coarse focus is rack and pinion with a fine focus knob mounted on top of the
limb. It has a draw tube, and a triple nose-piece marked ' R. & J. BECK LTD'. The condenser
assembly with a variable iris diaphragm and a filter holder. ' C. BACKER' is marked on the condenser. The plano-concave
mirror is in very good condition on both sides.
The Mechanical stage has a ruler marked: 40, 30, 20, 10, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, and it's also marked 'J. SWIFT & SON, LONDON, 18670'. It is in excellent condition and moves smoothly.
A micrometer imprint scale on the stage allows exact positioning of slides.

in, N. A. 0.92 J. SWIFT & SON, LONDON both with protective caps; and 1/6, N. A. 0.65, 53077, J. SWIFT & SON, LONDON.
There are two eyepieces, marked 1 and 3. X 5.5.
The microscope is in very good condition and it delivers beautiful clear images except the 1/8 objective which is not sharp. All rack works is
moving smoothly. It retains its
original lacquer but has gained some tarnish spots on the limb and one side of the main tube, and some paint wears showing on the
leg. All in all, this is a great instrument for practical use or for a show case.
The microscope and accessories are contained in its mahogany case with brass hinges, a leather handle and a working luck and key. There is a small age crack on the back of the case. Six slides are also in the case.
Case measures approx. 12 3/4" x 8 1/2" x 6 1/4".
