The Myth of Tenergy

 

This article is for table tennis enthusiast around the world at different game levels. Myth or fact, speculate; debatable; questionable; You decide!
 
"Timo Boll uses Tenergy" -   this slogan advert is commonly seen in association with table tennis retailers and suppliers who often claim world class players uses
particular products or brands etc. to attract more sales.  The question is, the one the player uses, is that the one you can buy? ....  There are Normal Market Version Tenergy and National Version Tenergy, which version does the top players use? ...How can you tell?

 

What does National Tenergy Version look like?
 
1. First glance appears the same as the normal one, however, real National Tenergy has a "SP" mark or writing “Not for sale” by Japan Butterfly Company on the sponge

2. Top sheet feel more rubbery, little bit tacky but soft: sponge feel more bounce.
 
3. Rubber produce more spin, feel and hold the ball better; the kick off the bounce more vicious; easier control on short game.
 
 
This rubber is very difficult to obtain. We have excellent direct connection/contact within the field of table tennis both mainland China and Hong Kong, through provincial teams, shops and distributors.
It has taken us two months to obtain.  The rubber we have are only supply to Chinese national second team upwards.  The provincial team only supply with market version.

 

Before a big championship, the like of Ma Long and Zhang Jike will pick a few that they wanted, the "cast off" are then past down hand to hand, and hopefully to a lucky buyer. So be aware, some shops claim they have large quantity and constant supply of these rubbers. There are not many "cast off".

How to make the national rubbers ? 
Rubber is produce in factories; large sheet of sponge is roll out from a machine; the top sheet is then glue together.  The inner centre of the sheet offers the most constance, therefore the best quality.
The rubber from the centre cuts will be the one the top players choose.

  
Will those centre cut rubbers really help you to reach the next level? We don’t think so. We visited one of the provincial team in China recently, most of the Junior players only use normal market version rubber, and their dedication, focus in training, will make them a future world champion. (the current Olympic champion play for the same team)
