This is a wonderful classical subject and it is very rare to find such a large & fine quality example in it's original Tooled Leather Fitted Case - making this wonderful Cameo highly collectable. As shown, the detail & quality of the carving is simply sublime; indeed the carving is more than perfect in every detail and the delicacy of this piece is truly amazing. The detail of the laurel wreath & the perfect way each lock of Caesar's hair has been captured by the Carver is truly amazing. The shell is in very good, with no chips or cracks & only a couple of lines visible, as shown, when it is held up to the light - making this rare and museum quality cameo a very desirable collectors piece.
