Gerard Goldberg played a pivotal role in the economic and cultural development of Cork and in changing attitudes towards Ireland's small Jewish community. He began his life as an outcast, and throughout his legal career represented the downtrodden as well as 'the great and the good'. He was ultimately elected to be his city's 'First Citizen' - the first Jewish Lord Mayor of Cork.

This collections features contributions from a variety of writers, historians, artists and politicians who have come together to recognise Goldberg's contribution to 20th Century Ireland.
