This is a very early Hewlett Packard processor chip in a highly unusual white and gold delicately thin ceramic package, 37mm square. Made by HP in the 1970's, I believe using their advanced Silicon On Sapphire process. This is a semiconductor fabrication process only used for highly specialised high speed applications today where, instead of using bulk silicon, a very thin layer of silicon from gaseous form is grown onto a slab of sapphire. It was very advanced for the time offering relatively high switching speeds.
