This is an antique secretaire chest of drawers dating to the Victorian era c.1850. The second drawer opens on superior quality brass hinging to reveal the writing desk complete with inset green baize surface, a series of six cubbies that are flanked by banks of triple drawers and beneath two further, each showing kingwood veneer and accessed with modest turned pulls.
Beautifully floral inlaid with satinwood, Kingwood, Olivewood. Supported with ormolu decorated mounts & shaped Louis XVI style legs. Perfect for a ladies boudoir or writing room. Circa late 19th century.
The upper section with a molded cornice above beaded glazed paneled doors enclosed adjustable timber shelving. The shaped dummy drawer fall flap to the lower section enclosed a fitted interior comprising writing surface, miniature drawers and pigeon holes.
Fitted four long graduated drawers above and below with oak lined interiors and dovetailed jointing. Raised on carved feet. Evidence of historic woodworm to back. No longer active though treated as a precaution.
