Praktica Camera Lenses
A prestigious vintage brand of camera thats been around for many years, Praktica are well known for inventing the first SLR film camera in 1936. Using Praktica camera lenses is a great way to achieve a high quality look for your photographs.
Lens features
Praktica outsourced their lens production to Hugo Meyer and Carl Zeiss , two famous and well respected lens manufacturers. The lens features will depend on their age. Some Praktica camera lenses are very old so they may not give you a full range of features.
Early Praktica lenses have no mechanical link with the camera body and are not capable of automatic controls. Some later Praktica cameras have a mechanism that makes older lenses work. Later lenses have automatic or semi-automatic aperture control to give you more operating options.
Compatibility
Praktica cameras have two different mounts for lens fitting - a bayonet B-mount or an M42 screw in mount, which is the most common mount for vintage lenses. Check which one your camera has before selecting a lens. Adapters are available to make your camera compatible with other types of lenses.
Buying tips
Vintage camera lenses are worth buying for some interesting camera effects and they produce a unique look, but bear in mind that theyre not quite as sharp as modern lenses.
When buying second hand lenses check that the filter thread is working and that the optics are not scratched. Also, if the lens has an aperture feature, make sure it functions properly and the focus works as it should.
Check how the focal length of the lens will change when its attached to your camera. This will depend on the sensor of your camera. As a general rule Sony and Nikon will multiply the length by 1.5x, canon is 1.6x and Micro 4/3 is 2x.
