This is an antique open bookcase, an English, Regency and later, set of bookshelves in rosewood and dating to the early 19th century circa 1830. An appealing antique open bookcase. Appealing dark tones to the quality rosewood.
A very good looking and well made piece, originally dating to circa 1800, revived in the Victorian era to be more in the Jacobean taste with heavily carved detailing, barley twist columns and so on. The back board is new as the old one had shrunk so badly it wasn’t structurally sound, now the piece is perfect.
Below we find a tambour cupboard which I have never seen on a piece like this, its flanked either side by two drawers each. Moving to the base section we start with a secrataire desk which houses no less than 20 drawers, each one with the original handles, the whole piece slides out as you would expect, the front folds out with the use of the two depression buttons on either side.
A glorious find, truly stunning, after original Thomas Chippendale pieces, circa 1800. The chest of drawers has a lovely curved serpentine finish, the drawers are fabric lined with nice detailing, the top has an oxblood leather serving tray.
A stunning piece, the top section is Astral Glazed which was very popular with exceptionally high-end cabinets in the Georgian era. The base section has three large drawers with a roll top bureau, the roll top is satin wood inlaid with designs very popular with Gillows.
FINE EXAMPLE OF A REGENCY PERIOD BOOKCASE CIRCA 1820. VERY MUCH IN THE MANOR OF THOMAS HOPE. COMPRISING OF 3 SECTIONS, LOWER CABINET, GLAZED CABINET AND REMOVABLE CORNICE. Over 40 years of industry experience.
Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The top part has a decorative stepped moulded cornice above open shelving in four sections separated by reeded corbals, with sixteen original shelves.
This magnificent bookcase features a moulded breakfront cornice over four double-arched astragal glazed doors in the upper section. The lower section has four panel doors all of which open to reveal spacious cupboards with shelves.
