It dates to c1820. I think it would have a mount behind the glass as the very edge of the silkwork would have been hidden. These do not unduly detract from the work which, lets face it is 200 years old.

A superb Antique hand stitched sampler depicting Mount Calvary in Italy where Jesus was crucified. In the right corner there is the makers initials YS to the left dated 1905 and in the middle 'Mount Calvary'.
A beautifully executed antique hand embroidered sampler by Mary Tizard, dated October 22nd, 1839. The large embroidered linen panel, worked in coloured silks in cross and satin stitch, incorporates Adam and Eve either side of the tree of life with an entwined serpent, and angels holding trumpets and swords.

I have always found this form of sampler very interesting, a standard school type worked at the beginning of the 20th century under the guide of the "City of Guilds". Virtually every all aspects of simple stitch work has been accomplice on a single piece of white linen, including embroidery along the bottom fringe button hole and simple patch.
The attached envelope reads Class I Twinkle eyes, 6 years 11 months inside we have the sewers details of who Twinkle eyes is Joyce Barton, East Halton Grimsby Lincs. This is probably the work of Joyce Lillian Barton who was born 17.3.1927 and died in 1998.
