Slip-On Camera Lens Cap

Slip-On Camera Lens Cap

To protect your precious and expensive camera lens from damage and dirt, a lens cap is vital. One of the most popular lens caps is push-on styles, commonly called slip-on camera lens caps. Many different brands offer slip-on camera lens cap so that you can find the perfect style and brand for your camera.

Slip-on fastenings are used in both front and rear lens caps. Front lens caps protect the protruding lens and are more common. Front lens caps are used while transporting the camera and should only be taken off when a photograph is being taken.

Using a front lens cap at all other times helps to protect the lens from dirt, grime, oil from fingers, smudges and smears. Using a lens cap to protect the lens is significantly cheaper than purchasing a new lens every time it suffers damage.

A rear lens cap is less common, as this is used to protect the changeable lens when they are not in use. Often people will only take one lens out with them, and therefore rear lens caps are often left at home.

Why choose a slip-on camera lens cap

Slip-on lens caps are the most popular form of lens caps as they can simply be pushed over the lens and fit perfectly over the outer rim of the camera lens, providing that you choose the right measurement to fit the lens front. This measurement is usually in millimetres, so in order to find the right size for your camera, simply measure the diameter of the lens barrel. This number, in millimetres, is the right size lens cap to look for.

A slip-on camera lens cap is usually the only cap option for cameras that do not have filter threads. While these are the easiest to use, it must be noted that they do not fit as securely as other lens caps, such as snap-on lens caps. They may be prone to falling off, so make sure to check that your cap fits as securely as possible and it may be time to replace the cap when it starts to feel loose.
