Rapido trains and railway models

The name Rapido was showcased by Canadian National in 1965 to ring in the railway's fast intercity passenger services. Until the mid-1980s, the Rapido name stood for frequent trains and excellent service. Today, Rapido trains live on in the beautifully detailed state-of-the-art models that are a favourite with collectors the world over. And, of course, there's no shortage of train and railway models to choose from here on eBay.

Rapido exclusives

Rapido Trains collaborated with VIA Rail Canada to make a limited edition model of VIA Rail's classic F40PH-2D locomotive to commemorate VIA's 40th Anniversary.

Later, in 2017, VIA decorated five of its F40PH-2D locos in a stunning paint scheme to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday, with names of Canadian cities and town emblazoned across their sides. In 2018, the paint scheme was changed slightly by removing the names and adding a large stylized 40 to celebrate 40 years since the creation of VIA Rail Canada. There are three locomotives in the scheme, 6416, 6436 and 6437.

Arnold Rapido 1960s locomotives

Founded in 1906, Arnold began making model trains in Germany after the second world war. A pioneer of new model railway gauges, Arnold worked on every new "small" scale in the years following. From O gauge trains and railways to H0/00 and then to TT gauge, Arnold constantly worked to make models accessible to everyone.

During the 1960s Arnold kicked off their Rapido range, and the first N gauge model railways at the time. For decades afterwards, Arnold would develop the range to offer more and more models in N gauge.
