Wireless Cycling Heart Rate Monitors

Wireless Cycling Heart Rate Monitors

Cyclists who are keen to measure changes in their fitness levels may find wireless cycling heart rate monitors a useful addition to their kit. Wireless heart monitors are usually operated via Bluetooth and are free from cables or plugs.

Chest strap heart monitors

Some heart monitors are designed to be worn around the chest. The Garmin Vivofit heart rate monitor and strap is a small device set in a detachable and washable chest strap. It can be worn comfortably under your clothes. It is compatible with a wide range of smartphones and devices and, once synchronised, is recognised every time. The chest strap can be adjusted for a comfortable fit.

The Topeak PanoBike heart monitor is another option. It is Bluetooth compatible and has a high accuracy rate and an adjustable strap. It has a strap extension for larger chest sizes and is water resistant. The Karrimor Heart Rate Monitor has similar features: it is Bluetooth compatible and adjustable with a high rate of accuracy.

Wrist strap heart monitors

Some cyclists prefer a wrist strap heart monitor, which works in a similar way to a fitness tracker. The LG Lifeband, Sigma, Jawbone and FitBit Charge 2 are all wrist worn heart monitor devices. They are Bluetooth compatible and need to be synchronised, so that the software will recognise your device. Most wrist- worn heart monitors need recharging and come with their own recharging devices and adapters. Used in this way, the battery does not need changing, only recharging occasionally. However, some devices have a battery that lasts up to six months without charging, but then needs replacing.

Adjust to your activity

Wrist worn heart monitors can track your heartbeat depending on the type of activity you are engaged in. If you programme one for cycling, then it will monitor changes in your heart rate as you cycle.
