Straps and Hand Grips for Universal Cameras

Straps and Hand Grips for Universal Cameras

Straps and hand grips allow you to secure your camera around your neck, to your wrist or around the palm of your hand, giving you added security and preventing damage from accidental drops and falls. Some designs are brand specific but straps and hand grips for universal cameras can be attached to any camera brand, allowing you to mix and match with ease.

Camera straps come in a variety of materials and you can choose your own design from leather, nylon, polyester or canvas. You can also choose a colour to suit your style and decide for yourself whether you would rather secure the camera to your hand, or to your body. Sometimes this choice may depend on the photography occasion.

Hand grips and wrist straps

Wrist straps and hand grips for universal cameras give you a feeling of security with the added benefit of having the camera in your hand, so you can be quick and responsive to photo opportunities. These straps are designed to allow you to hold the camera but also to support it if you let go for brief periods or accidently let it fall. They are not designed for completely hands free carriage.

Neck straps, shoulder straps, harnesses and holsters

Securing the camera to your body allows you to carry it safely and securely over longer distances, leaving your hands free. A neck or shoulder strap keeps the camera readily available and easy to use in a hurry but the camera is hanging freely and whilst it cannot be dropped, it can swing. For shoots of a more mobile nature, such as travelling fast on foot or climbing, a holster or harness is a good choice. The camera is then strapped into position and not able to swing or move but it will take longer to release it so this style is about security over speed.

Attaching a strap to your camera

All cameras have strap holders situated on one or both sides and all universal straps can be easily unfastened, slipped through the strap holder and securely fastened in place to prevent slipping.
