Children's Slide

What You Need to Know About Purchasing a Children's Slide

There are few things as exhilarating for a child as sliding down a slide, and there is a large selection of these available to purchase on eBay. Here are some items you need to consider when seeking a children's slide to purchase for your home.

What size slide do you need?

When choosing a slide size, there are a couple of factors to consider. First, what ages are your children? If all of your children are under 3, a small toddler slide will provide hours of fun for several years. A toddler slide also has the benefit of being small enough to fit both indoors or outdoors. If your children are older than 3, you will want to look at taller and longer slides. At this point, the size of the slide you purchase is going to be constrained by the size of your yard and the budget you have. Because kids tend to like more thrilling slides as they age, it would be good to get the largest-sized slide you can afford and feel safe about your children using.

What type of slide will work better for you?

Slides are made from several different materials. Smaller toddler slides tend to be made of heavy-duty plastic. Larger slides can be plastic or metal. Some differences between the two different types of slides are:

  • Metal: Metal slides are long-lasting and allow for a slightly faster sliding experience. They also get hot when in the sun and can cause burns. If you have a shaded area to place the slide, metal is a good choice. If your yard is covered by sunlight throughout the day, you may want to avoid metal.
  • Plastic: Plastic slides have the benefit of being able to be placed anywhere and not get too uncomfortably hot for children to use. Plastic does suffer from colour fading over time when exposed to the sun. It also will eventually dry rot, but that occurs over many years.
Should you purchase a freestanding slide?

Slides can be purchased freestanding or as part of a larger play set. If you want to have swings, a tree house, or another type of play area, you will want to look for a slide that can be connected to the play area. If you want a slide or have no place to attach it to already-existing play equipment efficiently, a freestanding slide would ideally fit your needs.
