Men's Tuxedos

Men's Tuxedos

The ultimate in sophisticated evening wear, a men's tuxedo or dinner jacket is the perfect option for those really special occasions. Whether you are heading for the opera, the prom or a stylish soiree you will never look under dressed in a tuxedo.

The classic black tuxedo, as worn by suave fictional spy James Bond, is such an iconic look that it never goes out of style. Choosing a well-made garment created from high quality fabrics will ensure that it lasts for many glamorous outings.

Although most usually seen in black, men's tuxedos are available in other colours. If you want to stand out from the crowd, why not go for a white or dark blue version? Some tuxedos have lapels in a contrasting colour which can give a more unique look, but it may be best to check the dress code of your event before you buy.

History of the tuxedo

The tuxedo is thought to have originated at a Savile Row tailors in the 1880s based on designs provided by King Edward VII. It grew in popularity during the twentieth century, adapting to the fashions of the times and is now a must-have for black-tie events.

The jacket is named after the Tuxedo Park club in New York, where fashionable gentlemen were first seen sporting the new style of formal evening wear in American society.

Complete the look

The term tuxedo usually refers to the standard dinner jacket alone, but can also refer to the entire suit of formal attire. This includes a dress shirt which may have a pleated or embroidered front. Formal trousers should match the fabric of the jacket and they usually feature a line of braiding down the outside seam.

Traditionally a men's tuxedo is worn with a bow tie, a matching cummerbund and a handkerchief may also be added. A pair of elegant cufflinks and smart black shoes complete the look and will ensure you make the right impression.
