Retro Style and Unique Colour Define the adidas Yeezy 500
Kanye West continued to dominate the shoe world with the release of his Yeezy season 6 collection, following the fashion-forward adidas Yeezy 500. This collaboration between Kanye West and iconic trainer brand adidas turned heads when it dropped in June 2018. Fans could pre-order the adidas 2017 Yeezy early through Yeezy Supply in December 2017 for shipping in March. The shoe quickly became a celeb favourite. Rappers Amine and Pusha T have been spotted in adidas Yeezy 500 Supermoon, while Jacquees favoured the Blush colourway. Nick “Swaggy P” Young actually played basketball in his Yeezy 500s in February 2018, which led Kevin Durant (who reps Nike) to comment with a sick emoji.
Yeezy 500 colourways
The first Yeezy 500 is the Blush colourway, sometimes also referred to as the Desert Rat colourway. This shoe features a blush upper and sole. The next colourway is the popular adidas Yeezy 500 Supermoon Yellow, featuring a light yellow suede, leather, and mesh upper with a light yellow sole. The Yeezy 500 Salt features a pale grey suede and leather upper, pale grey insole, and pale grey sole. The White Bone colourway features all-white materials. With all of these colourways, there are some slight variations in tone in the different materials, which make these shoes even more stylish.
Features that make the Yeezy 500 comfortable
The Yeezy 500 features multiple layers, starting with the base mesh for breathability. This layer shows through at the midfoot which allows for flexibility. Support comes from the next layer of leather on top of the mesh and then from suede at the toe, heel and various points around the shoe. A rubber strip around the midsole adds to the shoe’s water-resistant capabilities.

The soles are based on the 1990s-era Adidas KB8 III. The Yeezy 500 strays from the brand’s signature Primeknit and instead features an upper with suede and leather with mesh underlays. An adiPRENE+ foam midsole provides cushion and support. The mesh reduces the weight of the shoe, while the suede and leather give this trainer a luxurious look and feel.
