Ricoh Digital Camera

Ricoh have been producing well-regarded cameras for many years and began well before the introduction of digital cameras . Today they make only digital cameras and are the owners of Pentax , another well-known Japanese camera brand. Ricoh focus on compact digital cameras, as well as specialised and unusual cameras.

Anyone looking for an unusual and conversation-starting Ricoh digital camera should look for the Ricoh RDC-i500 made in 2001. This unusual looking camera was actually called an 'image capturing device' by Ricoh and it really was rather ahead of its time. By adding a modem card it could connect to the internet by phone line. Today many premium cameras have built in WiFi to do much the same, but Ricoh were ahead of the game.

Ricoh's main compact digital camera series is labelled GR and one of the most recent additions to the range is the simply named Ricoh GR. Made since the merger with Pentax, the GR is a sleek and very portable digital compact camera with a large sensor.

Large sensors allow a camera to capture more information for more detailed photos that can be enlarged without loss of sharpness. They also work better in low light, producing less 'noise' the grainy effect often seen in photos taken in low light.

It can also record full HD) video, has a bright clear screen sourced from Sony and a built in neutral density (ND) filter to allow for longer shutter speeds in bright light.

Ricoh also make the THETA S 12.0MP Spherical VR 360 Degrees digital camera. This unusual camera has a lens on both the front and the back to allow full 360° spherical imagery to be recorded with each exposure as either a photo or video.

Built in Wi-Fi means the images can be then passed to a mobile phone for immediate sharing and the camera can also be controlled from a mobile phone or tablet.

Useful in rough conditions, or under water, is the WG-4 GPS, a tough go-anywhere digital camera that is waterproof to 14m, dustproof, shockproof, coldproof to -10 degrees and crushproof to 100kg. It also features shake-reduction technology and can record full HD video.

Another fun camera from Ricoh is the waterproof, shock resistant, dustproof and coldproof WG-M2. This is an adventure video camera designed to rival the GoPro and be fixed to helmets, handlebars, car exteriors and just about anywhere the action is.
