Nearly all mobile phones today function as cameras too, but the Samsung Galaxy range of cameras can be said to be unique in working the other way.
The original range of Galaxy cameras was regarded as ground-breaking in that they had built in Wi-Fi and 3G for easy sharing of pictures on social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Galaxy cameras also run the Android mobile phone operating system, so blurring the line between camera and mobile phone .
First generation Samsung Galaxy cameras have a SIM slot, so by simply putting in a mobile phone SIM card , you can connect to the internet via the 3G mobile network. This means they have the ability to upload pictures from just about anywhere.
First generation Samsung Galaxy cameras
The original Samsung Galaxy Camera launched in 2012, has a 16-megapixel sensor and a 21x optical zoom lens to get close to the action. As well as Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, it also has a GPS receiver, meaning users can geotag their photographs when uploading so that other people can see exactly where the photo was taken.
The original Galaxy camera comes in white, black and red bodies and with on-camera storage of 8GB, which can be upgraded using a MicroSD card. The rear of the camera features a very large, clear and bright touch screen that closely resembles the home screen of an Android mobile phone.
With this screen users can easily organise edit and share their videos and photos, as well as download apps from Google Play to more creatively edit videos and photos.
Second generation Samsung Galaxy cameras
The Samsung Galaxy camera 2 closely resembles the original Galaxy in looks but has a faster processor, higher ISO (ability to photograph in low light) and uses the more modern version of Android software. However, it only has Wi-Fi connection and no 3G.
It does feature NFC connection, which means by bringing an Android mobile close to the Galaxy the two can connect to share files. The Android phone can also then function as a remote control for the camera.
The second generation Galaxy also has a new style flash that can be angled to bounce the light off ceilings and walls for a softer, less harsh result. Also included is a continuous shooting option to burst shoot at up to 4.3 frames per second, which makes it ideal for never missing the 'magic' moment.
Onboard are a range of creative filters and effects and when connected to the internet, the Galaxy 2 also enables you to check your emails and browse the web.
