Hardy Fly Fishing Rods

Hardy fly fishing rods are available in varying rod lengths. This includes 7”, 8” and 9”. Hardy fly fishing rods go up to 15” and they can be made out of carbon fibre, graphite, cane and even fibreglass.

Fast Action

A fast action rod by Hardy is bent at the back-cast. The rest of the rod is straight, and this is ideal for long casts. It also allows the angler to have more power in their cast while also being a suitable option for windy days. The stiffness of the rod is also far less physically demanding when compared to lower action rods. An angler has to work less to cast the same distance when compared to a flexible rod. Beginners may find it difficult to learn how to use a fast action rod.

Medium Action

Medium action fly rods are very versatile. They perform incredibly well in a variety of conditions including wind, rain and sleet. Medium action rods are considered to be the best option for beginners and the rod is bent around halfway down the rod. It falls between the fast and the slow action rod and this helps to give you the best of both worlds. A fisherman can catch a large variety of fish with the medium action fly fishing rod.

Slow Action

Slow action rods by Hardy are incredibly flexible. When the angler is performing a back cast, the slow action rod will bend around a quarter of the way down the rod. The back cast will enable the rod to arch into a 90-degree angle. Slow action rods are suited to small streams and it is better for small fish such as small rainbows, panfish and brook trout. Larger fish, however, may require a stiffer rod and therefore a fast action rod would be the better alternative.
