First edition. 4to., early 20th century half calf, marble boards, elaborate gilt compartments, leather spine labels, xviii, (1)-642, cii pp. With errata tipped in. With 10 full page engraved plates, two folding maps (one coloured) and with engraved vignettes at chapter headings. Some dampstaining from pp. i-7, and on the last 10 pp. penetrating the text at points, some minor damp in the margins of a few other leaves and in the margins of a couple of plates, but o/w a very nice copy in an attractive binding.”
