LAN49 1936 Secret Compartment Brass Decoder. Measures 1-5/8" x 1-1/4". In good, used condition with some scuffs to the finish and missing the pin on the back. This has a secret compartment on the back. The Little Orphan Annie radio serial starring Shirley Bell captivated fans on NBC from 1931-1942. The show was sponsored by Ovaltine from 1931 to 1940 and then by Quaker cereals from 1941 to 1942. Beginning in 1935, Ovaltine offered brass badges with a decoding feature so that club members could decode secret messages from Annie presented as a string of numbers during each episode. Each decoder has a year and the initials "R.O.A." for Radio Orphan Annie and most include "S.S." for Secret Society.”
