I'm not a woodworker so I can't say whether or not this is real walnut wood, but comparing it to my custom keyboard which IS made using solid walnut there is a ton of flex in these slats because of how thin they are, are rough on the front edge having not been sanded down, and are clearly using wood stain on the front side as is evident by the much lighter backside of the slats. There's also this strange series of holes that are cut completely through the slats in the same space on each one.
