The item is as described and allows a Firewire port to connect to a USB port, but because the systems are different, it seems that it only works if the Firewire end understands the USB protocol. In my case (an older Panasonic DV camera), it doesn't, so sadly I need a Firewire card + a cable. The seller was up front and honest about the product though, so I only have myself to blame and not them.
