There are few very tiny marks from handling and storage, but they are hardly worth a mention. That legendary hefty barrel is rock solid and retains an excellent black and gold finish, with all scales and branding as clear as the day they were printed. Finally, the vast, wide open glass is perfectly clear, no marks or scratches at all. Unusually for a vintage IF lens, there is no dust visible at all when held up to daylight.<P>The quality if this lens is obvious as soon as you pick it up, while in use, it feels bullishly confident and frankly belies the passage of the past 18 years. The focus and aperture rings move as smoothly and serenely as you would hope from a Nikon lens, with the internal focusing mechanism being light enough to focus with a single finger while the optic bears a gorgeous NIC multicoating which shimmers in the light.”
