Originally a relative nobody who sings for a living, he is noticed by a producer. Once Rhodes makes a television appearance, things begin to take off. In "A Face in the Crowd", Rhodes rides the wave for awhile, but then comes clean with an intimate crowd, spilling the true details of who he really is. He describes himself as a manipulator who has used everyone for his own personal gain. His ex-lover sets him up for ruin on his television show by leaving the microphones on during the closing credits. All of his fans hear him calling them nasty names and putting them down. "A Face in the Crowd" is a drama on DVD that is intended for mature audiences, due to the subject matter and some strong language.
