About this product

Product Information

"Secret of Evermore" was the first Squaresoft video game to be developed in North America. Unlike other Square games, "Secret of Evermore" saw a release in the United States before Japan. This RPG’s story is an entirely new tale written by George Sinfield and Paul Mazurek. When a boy and his dog are transported from their small town to the world of Evermore, they must find a way to escape. Evermore is divided into four distinct areas with each one representing a particular time. For example, one area is patterned after the Stone Age while another has a medieval look complete with castles. Players can freely move from one area to another and must frequently do so to solve puzzles. "Secret of Evermore" will take around 25 hours to fully complete. "Secret of Evermore" is classified as an action role-playing game, meaning the fights take place in real time. The gameplay is fast and constantly requires you to be on your toes. You'll need to attack your foes with your selected weapon while dodging their attacks. You can select special abilities from a menu wheel above your head to do extra damage to your foes. Your canine companion also joins in on the fight. You can switch between the canine and the human freely during a battle. As you defeat enemies, you earn experience points. Once you gain enough experience points, you can increase your health, damage, and defense. During your adventure, you'll find new armor and weapons that will give you an edge during combat. These weapons range from simple swords and spears to powerful bazookas. This action RPG also has a magic system, though it differs from other games in the genre. Instead of relying on magic points or on mana to cast spells, you must find alchemy ingredients. By combining two ingredients together, you can fire off an offensive or defensive spell. Ingredients are native to specific areas in Evermore, and as you play, you'll need to travel back to past areas to restock. You can find new alchemy spells in this SNES game by seeking out alchemists. Often, these alchemists are in hidden locations, requiring the player to search each location fully. This SNES game features a vivid and colorful palette that corresponds to each era. While the Prehistoria setting is full of dark brown and gray colors, the Antiqua setting is full of color. In each new setting, your canine companion will change his shape to reflect your surroundings. In Prehistoria, your canine appears as a feral beast, while in the futuristic setting, he appears as a robot dog. The composer in this SNES game was Jeremy Soule. Soule is a legend in the video game community, having composed the music for best-selling PS3 games like "Skyrim." This SNES game was released before the advent of the ESRB and has no official rating. However, it features only mild animated violence, thus making it suitable for gamers of all ages. This Super Nintendo title is not just a piece of gaming history, but it is also a fantastic concept. If you're a fan of Nintendo RPG games, "Secret of Evermore" is one title that you should play.
