This wonderful new book includes over two hundred photographs which chronicle Winchester people, places, and events between the years 1850 and 1960. The images many rare and previously unpublished bring to life over a century of change in Winchester, showing the old local families, the Italo-American community which grew so rapidly in the late nineteenth century, Winchester people at work and play throughout the decades, local institutions such as the hospital and library, and major local landmarks, many of which no longer exist. The photographs take us on a fascinating journey through Winchester s history, and show how much, and yet how little, has changed in this diverse and dynamic town, and how a sense of local pride and community spirit has been passed down the generations to the present day."
