Joachim Froese photographs 1999-2008 is the first monograph of Froese's work, presenting five of his still-life photographic series. This 100-page hardcover bilingual (English/German) book contains essays by Timothy Morrell, Andrea Domesle and a conversation between Ian Friend and the artist, and a foreword by Gordon Craig. Over the last 10 years Froese's work has concentrated on the photographic still life and he has developed a unique way to create photographic tableaux. These laboriously assembled constructs are inspired by art history as well as his personal story of migration. They seemingly defy reality and question the inherent nature of the photographic image as a reflection of the real.
