Er stie sich auch am Provinzialismus und der klerikalen Politik seiner Zeit im K nigreich Bayern, was sich beispielhaft in Jozef Filsers Briefwexel niederschl gt. Als brillant werden die mit Humor und Satire gew rzten Erz hlungen oder Einakter aus dem b uerlichen und kleinst dtischen Lebenskreis in Oberbayern angesehen. Die unsentimentalen Schilderungen agrarischen Lebens in den Romanen sind wohl deshalb besonders lebensnah gelungen, weil Thoma aus seiner Rechtsanwaltst tigkeit eine F lle praxisnaher Einblicke in die Lebensumst nde auf dem Lande gewinnen konnte.
