They have yet to be equaled by anything that has been made since. In the classic JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, Jason embarks on a quest for the Golden Fleece in order to assume the throne of Thessaly. Along the way, he and his crew encounter all manner of malicious beasts and monsters, including the Hydraa, an enormous beast with seven snakeheads, the Harpies, and an army of skeletons, whose battle sequence is a milestone of special effects virtuosity. Sinbad's voyages are similarly afflicted in THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD, and SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER. Here, he finds himself up against a one-eyed centaur, a griffin, the giant Minoton, a Cylcops, a saber-wielding skeleton, and a fire-breathing dragon, among many other terrifying creatures that are simultaneously awe-inspiring in their presentation. Finally, Harryhausen brought to life Jonathan Swift's classic tale of GULLIVERS TRAVELS in THE 3 WORLDS OF GULLIVER. This awesome fantasy is both a captivating story and a visual treat. The great disparities of size called for by the script gave rise to the creation of a new photographic technique called Superdynamation, yet another example of the brilliance of the animator, and a perfect tool for the the story of Gulliver's experiences in Brobdingnag and Lilliput, the lands of the great and small.
