First published in 1893, this charming, beautifully illustrated collection of sayings, proverbs and rhymes that have helped predict the weather around the world since ancient times is still both fascinating and useful today. Measuring instruments include: Barometer, Thermometer, Hygrometer, Telescope, Spectroscope. Animals include: Quadrupeds, Birds, Fish, Molluscs, Reptiles, Insects, Plants etc. This new edition has been completely redesigned and is fully illustrated with reproductions of woodcuts, photographs and drawings throughout. AUTHOR: Richard Inwards was born in 1840, and lived a fascinating life travelling the world in his capacity as a manager of international mining projects. From Norway to Bolivia, meteorological studies remained his main interest, and after settling in England he became joint editor of the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society. He became president of the society in 1894, following Weather Lore's publication the previous year.
