While this in and of itself would not have been a deal killer, knowing the physical condition would have changed where and how I unpacked it. After an initial cleaning, the instrument was switched on and it responded properly. It accepted the various HP modules intended for the machine. As with any HP-85 the belts for the print head need replacing.
