New Jersey's Dillinger Escape Plan's first full-length album, Calculating Infinity, released in 1999, changed the face of hard music with its unclassifiable sound; five years later comes their equally incredible follow-up, Miss Machine. The two worlds of math rock and hardcore combine, with influences from metal, jazz, Latin, and even classical showing up on this complex, intricate record. New vocalist Greg Puciato makes his appearance here with driving vocals that move surprisingly into harmony at times with the synthesized strings and piano, and the music moves unapologetically between math metal and a more industrial sound. Intelligent, streamlined and highly technical as it is, this record retains the forceful, punishing quality of Calculating Infinity to once again set the world of rock spinning; this deluxe edition includes a DVD of the band playing the legendary Hellfest concert.
