As ever with Images of War books, the heart of it comes in the collection of photos which provide a great spread of coverage of the Challenger 2 in service.
    Synopsis
Until the 1980s, the Royal Armoured Corps relied first on the Centurion, and then the Chieftain for its main battle tank needs. The question of the Chieftain's replacement became urgent in 1980 when the MBT80 was cancelled. While the Royal Ordnance Shir 2 was acquired as the Challenger, it was as a stop gap with design limitations which quickly became apartment. Vickers took over the Royal Ordanance tank building facility as the Cold War ended and, against stiff foreign competition, developed the Challenger 2. This superbly researched and illustrated book tells the story of the evolution and service career of the Challenger 2. It is a tank that has seen distinguished service in war and peace since 1998 and which has proven itself one of the world's formidable fighting vehicles. The authors have evaluated the Challenger 2's technical merits and development path, and what has set it apart from its competitors. The result is an objective and authoritative work written with the help of many who have lived the Challenger 2 story. It will delight military equipment buffs, model-makers and wargamers., For much of the Cold War, the British Army's main battle tanks (MBT) were first the Centurion and then the Chieftain. The question of the latter's replacement became urgent when in 1980 MBT80 was canceled. While the Royal Ordnance Challenger (originally the Shir 2) was acquired as a stop gap its design and capability limitations quickly became apparent. Vickers then took over the Royal Ordnance tank building facility and against stiff foreign competition developed the Challenger 2. This superbly researched and illustrated book tells the story of the evolution and subsequent successful career of Challenger 2 which has seen distinguished service in war and peace since 1990 and has proved itself one of the worlds most formidable fighting vehicles. The authors do not shy away from technical detail and make comparisons with competitors. The result is an objective and authoritative work which will delight military equipment buffs, modelers and wargamers.

Fast shipping. All books are as described in their listings. They were wrapped snugly in bubble wrap, inside of a fully enclosed cardboard sleeve, which was in turn placed inside of a water resistant media mailer bag. A thoughtful packing job to protect the books and ensure their safe arrival. I recommend this seller to anyone who is looking for history oriented books. Thanks!!
