About this product
Product Information
"Sonic and the Black Knight" for the Nintendo Wii represents a shift for the Sonic franchise. Although this game still emphasizes speedy gameplay and skill-based jumps, the setting is completely different. While the previous Sonic games take place on Mobius, "Sonic and the Black Knight" takes place in ancient history. When Sonic is transported back to the medieval ages by Merlina, Merlin's granddaughter, Sonic must save the kingdom. This Wii game is the first adventure to not feature Dr. Robotnik as the villain. Instead, the villain is King Arthur wielding Excalibur, along with a surprise twist villain. This title was developed by Sonic Team, published by Sega, and had a release date of March 3, 2009."Sonic and the Black Knight" features the same core gameplay as other "Sonic the Hedgehog" games. As Sonic, you dash through each level as fast as possible. Pull off tricks in mid-air so that you are able to collect all the rings. This game does add a sword called Caliburn to your arsenal, and you use it by swinging the Wii Remote. This sword adds a new layer of combat to the title and leads to some intense duels against opponents.Throughout each level are townspeople who ask for a certain number of rings. Giving them these rings unlocks bonus items at the end of the stage. These unlockable items include new music, new characters to play, and different character profiles. While seasoned gamers complete the main story in 10 hours, it takes 20 or more if you want to find every item.As the game takes place in the past, there are no springs or speed pads. Instead, fairies grant you the powers that these items did in previous games. You also earn the ability to unlock different playstyles that let you place an emphasize on power over speed and vice versa. "The Black Knight" also features additional playable characters. Knuckles, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Blaze take on the roles of knights Sir Gawain, Sir Lancelot, and Sir Percival, respectively. Each character has their own set of skills taken from past games in the series. For example, Knuckles climbs up walls. You need to master their powers to stand a chance against the Dark Queen and her Black Knight."The Black Knight" also features a multiplayer mode. This mode has 12 different combatants for gamers to play. In addition to entities such as Blaze and Shadow, you also play as Silver the Hedgehog, Tails, and Amy. Each character has their own unique attacks and skills. For example, Amy uses her giant hammer to attack while Sonic relies on his sword. In this multiplayer setup, up to four players battle it out in an arena setting. Both the single player and multiplayer modes run at a consistent frame rate. No matter how fast the action gets on the screen, the graphics remain constant and flicker-free to capture every movement. This Nintendo Wii game is rated E 10+, meaning that it is suitable for children ages 10 and up. While the game is a departure from what fans are used to, gamers love its fresh take on the franchise. No Wii collection is complete without this outstanding video game.
