About this product

Product Information

It's a simulation. It's an education. It's an adventure. It's a reference tool. It's strategy and action. Whatever you want to label it, Lionel Trains Presents: Trans-Con! is a trip to the past, a journey to America's wild west that spans 1,776 miles. The game simulates the building of the Transcontinental Railroad, a feat that began in 1863 at two locations, Omaha, Nebraska and Sacramento, California. Six grueling years later, the two teams met at Promontory, Utah and the Golden Spike became an icon of American history.

Lionel Trains Presents: Trans-Con! is geared for children ages 8-12 and encompasses more than 300 state and national curricular standards for grades three to six. In this race to Promontory, you'll assume the role of chief engineer for either the Central Pacific in California or the Union Pacific in Omaha. Each route contains unique adventures but center on three specific tasks.

First, after selecting which company to represent, you'll start building the railroad, complete with blasting tunnels, building bridges and laying track. The government will grant you a set amount of cash to begin with and you'll need to manage it well to avoid bankruptcy. The second task is to save the railroad from sabotage at the hands of six real-life outlaws hired by a master criminal to keep the job from being completed. To aid you in this endeavor, you can choose from real-life characters such as Calamity Jane, Tomahawk Beckwourth or Wild Bill Hickok.

The final task is to capture all six of the outlaws, interrogate them using a truth-meter to help separate the truth from the misleading information they'll try to confuse you with and ferret out the identity of the mastermind behind the dastardly plot. Throughout the adventure, you'll be joined by Jack and his sister Sarah as you discover and explore frontier towns, meet Native Americans, view majestic canyons, deal with natural disasters, visit workers' camps and even take the controls of your own locomotive!

Elements of strategy and adventure are contained in more than 20 missions in the game. So grab your engineers' cap, feed the boiler and hit the rails in the 3D rendered trains of Lionel Trains Presents: Trans-Con!.
