Product Information
Barney, B.J., and Baby Bop are the hosts of three groups of musical games set on a theatrical stage in Barney Magical Music CD-ROM Playset. With the five musical instruments that constitute the controls of the keyboard-attachable playset, children can turn the computer into a one-man band or play along with the games. The stage is composed of Barn, Jungle Tree, and Castle props that indicate the areas of play. Children can enter the Farmyard Festival, Jungle Jamfest, or Fairytale Fantasy by clicking the mouse on the area's respective prop.<br><br>The five instruments included on the playset keyboard accessory are a trumpet, a foot drum, a bongo, a violin, and a three-key piano. The instruments are used in a variety of ways depending on the game. For example, in each area there are singalong games with different characters that respond when any one of the different instruments is played. <br><br>Other games feature Barney or Baby Bop singing familiar tunes such as "London Bridge Is Falling Down" and inserting directions to play one of the specific instruments. When children follow the directions and choose the right instrument, they are rewarded with sounds or actions. The computer will adjust the difficulty level as children give consecutive correct answers. <br><br>Playing the Farmyard or Jungle Musical Mix Up game gives children the choice to create different versions of songs such as "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" by choosing intermittent words when prompted. The Country Dance game is staged in a barn and shows B.J. performing different dance steps to each of the five instruments. <br><br>Aside from the various musical games, other areas of play include Barney's One Man Band where children help Barney play music by selecting style, tempo, and rhythm. A Jukebox in the Backstage area will save songs and a Print Activity area offers printable coloring pages. Added features of the game include a treble cleft icon that pops up indicating that specific pictures on screen will make a sound or movement if clicked and a show-stealing porcupine that presents itself randomly.
