Notes
This album breaks new ground in instrumental steel drum music: early rock-n-roll from the 50's and early 60's. You still get the sweet steel pan sound, but with the great melodies from the days of burger drive-in's with waitresses on skates, and a juke box inside, and small juke boxes at the booths. Hence the title, Radio Cafe!!!! In those days the juke boxes didn't just play rock, you'd also hear country and western like Johnny Cash, or latin like Prez Prado, as well as songs by Elvis, Roy Orbison, Frankie Lymon and many others all on this CD. In fact, it's longer than most CD's, having 17 great hits. In doing these songs it brought back many memories I had forgotten; cruising main street with your girl by your side, not sitting over by the passenger door; loud exhaust pipes; AM radio blasting; drive-in movies; cheap gas; the high school dances where the still faced Vice Principle would measure the length of the girls skirts, and then before the first song all the guys and gals had to stand along opposite walls and when the first song played you'd have to get up the courage to cross all the way over to ask for a dance and deal with fear of rejection and the 'razzing' you'd get from your friends. These and other memories will come back to you when you hear this CD. Thanks for checking it out - Greg MacDonald.
