Seller notes: “Two volumes (of three) only (complete). In French throughout. A genial, pleasing set of this ... “Two volumes (of three) only (complete). In French throughout. A genial, pleasing set of this extensive biography of the legendary French missionary. Both are from the Missionsbibliothek Zurich and have a label and stamped number (2190). Volume I: "Enfance et Jeunesse 1834-1861 : D'aprés son autobiographie son journal intime et sa correspondence" (352 pages). Volume II: "Missionaire au Lessoutho 1861-1882" (pub: 1910; 540 pages). The boards of both have some light shelving wear, scuffing, handling and storage marks. Stamped gilt titling (genial). Both have an identification label at the foot of the spine. The spines are a little faded. The end papers are decorated in a bourgeois fashion. The contents are mild-mannered. The pages are tanned about the edges from shelving and paper quality (?). Nonetheless, the pages are very clean and clear, healthy, confident, very assured and generous, agreeably sound and steady. fk”
