Out of the box this item was totally unfunctional - nothing worked except a light when AC power was applied. The disk tray would not open. After fumbling with this item for about 20 minutes I slammed it down on the table, something one should not do to an electronic appliance. After three slams the disk tray would open and it seemed to be functional. Having previously owned this exact item I am well aware of its functionality. After using it for several days I have deemed it conditionally OK
