Compass is a smaller reproduction of a Brunton-type instrument. It is generally well-made, machined well, and does have a functional compass needle. However the directional markings are unreadable, so while the needle points north, you cannot read your bearing at all. This makes it purely ornamental, not functional. This is okay with me, because I bought it as a prop in an office display. It really just needs a dye or patina to make the gradations stand out. Overall, I am happy with it.
