As a 17-year old I was honoured to be backed by the Pacemakers - with Les McGuire on Piano. I did a spot in the middle of the gig to give Gerry a breather. Les played piano flute and all the saxes - the best Merseyside musician - without a doubt.

The recording engineers made the cleanest recording ever. They clipped wired crocodile clips to the open-backed amps. This meant that the over-driven speakers were by-passed. It missed the slightly-distorted valve sounds. The could not do that with my bass - my Vox T.60 was infinite baffle (closed) and they could not use clips. Listen to Kingsize Taylor recordings made in early 60's. 24-track !!!
