The "M" in the Z87 MPower motherboard stands for military, and, like the military, the board offers safety in numbers – big numbers. The MSI Z87 MPower has four 240-pin DDR3 DIMMS for up to 36GB of 3000MHz memory, eight SATA 6G ports, three PCIe 3.0 x 16 slots, four PCIe 2.0 x 1 slots, and 16 SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports – all the power potential you would expect in a high-end motherboard designed with gaming enthusiasts in mind. The MSI Z87 MPower motherboard has an ATX Form Factor of 11.9685 inches x 9.6063 inches, and needs a great deal of power to utilize its capabilities. Compatible processors include the Intel Celeron Dual-Core series, Core i3 series, Core i5 series, Core i7 series, Pentium Dual-Core series, and Xeon series. If you conceive building a maxed-out gaming rig around the Z87 MPower, consider the heavy power the Core i5, Core i7, and Xeon series offer. Use any of the compatible Intel CPUs for day-to-day computer tasks, but less powerful processors don’t take advantage of the Z87 Power’s high-end features, such as its optimized overclocking tech. MSI loads the Z87 MPower motherboard with a proprietary overclocking system. MSI’s OC PCB isolates power and signal traces to use 50 percent more circuit-board layers for faster current flow. MSI designed the Z87 MPower’s components for high thermal tolerance, and tested the board using a military-style burn-in test to define its limits. During the test, MSI ran Z87 MPower motherboards at full overclocking for 24 continuous hours – with no cooling system. MSI OC Essentials overclocking tools include a pair of plus and minus buttons that allow you to adjust the base clock in real time in 1MHz or 0.1MHz increments, an Easy Button 3 module (power up, power down, and reset during overclocking), and V-Check Points 2 so you use up to three multimeters to simultaneously to dial in the optimal voltage for an application. OC Essentials software lets you control minute aspects of overclocking parameters without sapping additional energy from your power supply. Click BIOS 4, a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) BIOS, is optimized for Windows 8 and above. The MSI Z87 MPower motherboard features AMD’s CrossFire X, which boosts gaming performance by supporting up to four GPUs and four additional displays simultaneously while optimizing boosts, image quality, scaling, and rendering. MSI’s AudioBoost with SoundBlaster Cinema technology provides a 600-ohm amplifier, Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) shielded audio codec, and illuminated audio PCB separation and gold-plated connectors to eliminate interference. An integrated Wi-Fi-Bluetooth 4.0-WiDi module provides the fastest available transfer speeds and the capability to wirelessly use your Wi-Fi-capable television as a display. Two included Wi-Fi antennas act as repeaters, so you receive a wireless signal anywhere in your home. MSI Z87 MPower motherboards include a user guide, software and application guide, OC Genie overclocking record, two driver discs, two wireless antennas, quick-start guide, certificate of stability, SLI bridge, SATA cables, Wi-Fi module, input-output shield, voltage checkpoint cables, and M-type connectors.
