I'm sad you were not delighted with these near pristine 40 yr old 1980 beauties. Stones are clear, sparkly and top gold plating gleams. Due to deep dome shape of earrings I believe you are seeing different thicknesses of gold on the underside giving variation in shading. Rest assured, this was done at creation and not tarnish or discoloration!
