Nel 1980 il sovrano dell'Arabia Saudita affidava la realizzazione della nuova reggia nella città di Taif ad un importante studio di arredatori parigini. Furono i progettisti francesi a contattare Barovier&Toso per il disegno e la fornitura di un a serie di grandi lampadari da collocare nel palazzo reale. La prospettiva di inserire un lampadario veneziano in un contesto governato dal gusto francese suggerì ad Angelo Barovier di ripensare l'immagine della tradizione muranese. Per armonizzare il disegno alla scena, doveva liberare uno spazio per inserire elementi originali e diversi, salvaguardando al contempo l'essenza del linguaggio veneziano. Prende così forma un procedimento di sottrazione e di sostituzione, di semplificazione e di arricchimento. L'identità del disegno è affidata ai profili dei bracci del lampadario, le cui curve sono definite da una gabbia metallica portante su cui sono inseriti gli elementi in vetro.
