It has a tiny rod that is held within a metal cylinder. When G force it applied, it makes contact with the cylinder, which creates a circuit. If it rattles, then it doesn't quite make contact with the cylinder which creates the flicker. If you screw it on too tight, it shorts the circuit on the PCB. I solved this issue with a small piece of paper between the PCB and top battery, with the inner spring fed through the centre of the paper. Use a washer inside to stop it letting air out the valve.

Right, so I managed to figure these out; I had to sacrifice one in the process. It has a tiny rod that is held within a metal cylinder. When G force it applied, it makes contact with the cylinder. If it rattles, then it doesn't quite make contact with the cylinder which creates the flicker; so it has to be screwed on tight onto the tyre valve. If you screw it on too tight, it shorts the circuit. I solved this issue with a small piece of paper, with the inner spring fed through the centre of it.
