This ... “Good-Very Good overall antique cond: In absolutely orig, completely untouched, antique cond. This rare, hand painted, mid-19th c American antique portable writing box or travel desk is only missing the 2 int pine wood plates that would've once constituted its writing surface. The box's 2 halves are cut at angles, as were nearly all of these early-mid 19th c wood writing boxes, so that when the hinged lid is opened & laid down on a table, the slanted writing surface would become apparent. Often, these int writing surfaces were lined w/a felt cover, so that the paper wouldn't slip on the surface of the wood & croquill tipped pens wouldn't snap off on a hard surface. These 2 int boards or tableaus, have long since been sep from the writing box. What remains however is a hand-painted, choice int salmon pink dry paint that's simply superlative & highly coveted. The ext of the box is hand painted in dark grn w/dec blk, hand painted edging. An extraordinary 19th c American folk art artifact.”
