What Compaq machine were you restoring? Are there any scratches on the label side? Please dab with a permanent black marker any silver spots. I checked for reviews one user was able to restore an old Compaq Presario 7470 to factory spec. It did take several reboots and a couple times it seemed like the process failed. It could have also been a dying CD-ROM which was subsequently replaced.
